The finality of Novembner
Heh. Novembner.
It’s been a hell of a month. Didn’t participate in NaNoWriMo this year, maybe next year. Visited the woman I love and spent two wonderful weeks with her. And now December starts, and that means Christmas. And New Year’s.
Oh boy am I gonna be hammered.
Sunday
No more itch. And besides, it’s the first shower I’ve had since I got back. Needed to wash the smell of travel off me. Feels good.
Saturday
Back at Mema’s. It’s a totally different type of home cooking. Familiar, warm, with a glass of Irish milk. It’s nice to be home. It sucked to leave.
Friday
My sister took a picture of me on her camera. We were hanging out, drinking some beer and I was saying things like “gas station” and “Laundry”
The picture is on the other computer, I’ll upload it tomorrow.
Edit: There we go. I really should rely on sober, plentiful pictures that I take myself for the 365.
Oh wow. Only a month away from being finished.
Home
I’m back. After 10 hours of transcontinental flight, a quick beer and two cigarettes in Amsterdam, an hour to Dublin and several hours back to Letterkenny… I’m sitting in my chair.
I’m so amazingly tired. I shall update when possible. I need a day or two to not experience any stimulus. Darkness… home cooking… drum tobacco…
Thursday
Oh I am bringing this card every time I travel. Four plane rides, three of them with nobody sitting beside me. Nine of Spades. Lucky travelling card.
This one is on the plane from LAX to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. Sun went down after we took off, came up before we landed. Apparently I can’t sleep on planes.
Wednesday
I flew home today… Hardest thing I ever had to do. I love you Kimberlee.

Little Moments in America #12
Mall Tuesday
Went to the mall today, had a wander around, feeling out the ambiance. Sears, JC Penny, wig shop, pet store, knife outlet… the usual.

This is Kimberlee. You may have seen her before. I love her, and it’s very upsetting to leave her. That’s why I’ll be coming back in a few months to see her again. My last day with her hasn’t been anything spectacular, nor has it been thrilling… but it was nice. We had meatloaf for dinner. We made koolaid.
I love you Kimberlee, and I’ll be back in a couple of months.
I’ll be travelling tomorrow, and most likely lasting into Thursday. Keep an eye out for updates mentioning @themadcarpenter on twitter. I’ll try and get someone to update for me. See you all on the other side.

500 – 1,000 dollars a piece… We decided to go down the street and get some 5 dollar malts. For pictures of my malt, and some antique and vintage stuff, click the link.

Antiques Monday
Kimberlee and I went for a walk in the centre of Orange today. Wandered around the antiques stores, of which there were a lot. Many of them were closed seeing that it’s Monday, which is fair I guess seeing that most of them are open Saturdays. The places were bleedin’ huge though. Most had basements, and back rooms… massive.
Had a strawberry malt in the oldest business that’s still open in the City of Orange – Watson Drug and Soda Fountain. They’re a drugstore and they have a soda fountain; they don’t have a drug fountain.
Some of the reviewers on that site are really picky. But Watson’s doesn’t have their own site, which is too bad. I really liked the food.

Under the pier at Huntington Beach. The Pacific is cold.

Beach Sunday
That right there behind me, is the Pacific Ocean. It doesn’t smell as salty as the Atlantic, it’s actually colder and it has a faint smell of boiled cabbage. Different seaweed I guess.
Had a slice of pizza next to PCH and then headed to pick up Kimberlee’s son. Watched a bit of Wall-e, then had delicious fried chicken, biscuits and sausage gravy. With a 1554 beer from the New Belgium Brewing Company. Best dinner I’ve had in a long time.

Balloon Saturday
After a little back and forth with weather conditions this morning Kimberlee and I were able to get on the balloon in Irvine. One of only 17 of this type of balloon in the world apparently.

400 feet above California suspended beneath a helium balloon.

Hollywood. And lots of it.

Hollywood Friday
We went up to the Griffith Observatory today to look at Los Angeles from up high. It was incredible. And on the drive up we saw the tunnel from Back To The Future 2. After getting a big sandwich for dinner, and accidentally driving up and down Hollywood Boulevard we headed out to a little hole in the wall bar in Hollywood to meet up with friends and watch some local bands. And a beatnik poet.

An airship, above a doughnut shop. On 7th by Pacific Coast Highway. A very American moment indeed.

Pre-L.A. Thursday
Went with Kimberlee and her brother and sister to the courthouse today. Lots of waiting in a hot room to end up spending less than 5 minutes in the courtroom to be told to come back in a month. The American legal system; it’s not great, but it’s not all bad.
Oh yeah, the Pre-L.A. remark… we were technically in Los Angeles today, but only really on the edge. Going to Hollywood tomorrow.
L.A. proper as it were.
Little Moments in America #6
I saw the aftermath of a traffic accident today. Highway patrol, fire service, local cops, ambulance. Pictures after the jump.
