Mall Tuesday

November 24, 2009 · Posted in 365 project, Love · 2 Comments

Went to the mall today, had a wander around, feeling out the ambiance. Sears, JC Penny, wig shop, pet store, knife outlet… the usual.

This is Kimberlee. You may have seen her before. I love her, and it’s very upsetting to leave her. That’s why I’ll be coming back in a few months to see her again. My last day with her hasn’t been anything spectacular, nor has it been thrilling… but it was nice. We had meatloaf for dinner. We made koolaid.

I love you Kimberlee, and I’ll be back in a couple of months.

I’ll be travelling tomorrow, and most likely lasting into Thursday. Keep an eye out for updates mentioning @themadcarpenter on twitter. I’ll try and get someone to update for me. See you all on the other side.

Friday the 13th

Today’s picture, yes, is a 365 picture. There’s another person in the picture. The person almost entirely responsible for me finally being in America. She paid for half my ticket.

The Mad Carpenter is going to America

November 11, 2009 · Posted in Love, Real life sort of stuff · 1 Comment

Ahh. America. Such a grand word…

I’m flying out to Orange, California at 6am on Thursday the 12th. I’ve wanted to visit America for years and now after a year or being in love with an amazing woman I’m finally doing it.

I fly from Dublin to Amsterdam for a near 2 hour stopover, then I get on the plane and fly to LAX airport in Los Angeles from whence I shall be collected by Kimberlee.

I’ll see Kimberlee at around 1pm local time. I don’t know when I’ll see all of you, but I’ll be taking lots of pictures and posting when I can.

If I don’t update between now and when I get to America, I’ll see you all on the other side. California… Holy Hell.

Wish me luck in the comments everyone.

I’ve been sending money to Kimberlee. I’m flying over to visit her some time in November. Sent her 100 dollars today via Western Union. We’re about half way to the price of the ticket.

www.edreams.co.uk for low cost flights.

I love you Kimberlee and I can’t wait to meet you.

Audition Wednesday

June 10, 2009 · Posted in 365 project, Facial Hair, Love, Real life sort of stuff, Writing · Comment

Hello, hello, hello and welcome to the mad carpenter.

There’s big plans in the works for the near future, including branded clothing, custom coffins and even an advertising campaign BUT…

Today we talk about something else. And the thing we talk about today is the media career of The Mad Carpenter. I went out for an audition today, to play the role of an extra in a TG4 production called Ealu II. The information I got about the gig, both from Mema who found the announcement in the paper (Thanks again Mema) and from the staff at the audition, Including the director, is that it’s about famous Irish prison breaks.

We went in in groups, chatted a bit about our experience in media/acting filled out the usual forms. Now answer me honestly here people – Do I look like the sort of guy that would be in prison in the 20’s or the 40’s in Ireland?

Thought you’d say that.

Hat Week Day 12: Special Guest

April 6, 2009 · Posted in 365 project, Love, fashion, photography · Comment

Hello there Mad Carpenter fans; you’re in for a treat today because you’re meeting my younger sister Stephanie (again) but since this is hat week she’s here to show off her hats.

steph

Clockwise from top left:

1. Black instripe trilby: a fairly recent purchase – Pennys of Letterkenny

2. Black and White Dogtooth trilby: worn in perfectly – Pennys of Letterkenny

3. Blue Engineer’s cap: One of the earliest hats – Can’t remember

4. Black and Red trilby: Found a matching shirt – Pennys of Letterkenny

She’s becoming quite the hat enthusiast. Pennys isn’t a hat shop or anything, it’s just a chain clothing store in Ireland and the UK. So it just goes to show what a little determination and a small budget can get you these days. Just keep your eyes open and you can find some real treasures.

Edit: Stephanie found a nice grey trilby in a charity shop on the morning of the 7th, I’ll get her to email me a picture as soon as possible for inclusion in this article.

My picture after the jump because sadly I’m not wearing a hat today. I’ve run out of hats to take pictures of. Sure I have a beanie or two, but those are necessary hats, not fashion hats. I do have one or two more hat related articles though, then it’s back to regular service.

The Saturday of a barking cough and not making a movie

March 21, 2009 · Posted in 365 project, Love, Table Polishing · Comment

Planned on making a fake movie trailer today.
It was a trailer for the hotly anticipated “The Daughter of the Son of Lawnmower man”, the mowingest movie of the summer. Just when you thought it was safe to go back among… well, very near to the begonias in a striped pattern.

Never mind. When I’m better, I’ll do that. It’ll be low budget, well no budget. We didn’t do it today because there was no gasoline in the lawnmower… so another day? We’ll do lunch. Don’t call us, get the fuck out of my house.

img_0129

Remember a while ago when I said you’d be meeting people over the coming weeks? Well her right there is the most important little person, to me, in the world. I call her The Child Woman, because she’s never really been a girly girl. See the plaid shirt for evidence. She collects hats and by gum she’s like a daughter to me.

Hope you all have a great Sunday, or whatever day you read this. Now contact your younger sister and tell her you love her. Because I love mine.

Oh and on a table polishing note, themadcarpenter.com saw it’s 1,000th visitor today, and the page they looked at was the 2,000th pageview in the short 77 day history of this blog. Thanks for all the support.

By the way, the individual visitor that was number 1,000 was from Sligo, or accessing it from the Sligo server. 7 people visited today from Sligo, so if you’re one of them drop me a comment and I’ll give you a little prize.

January 10th

February 10, 2009 · Posted in Love, Poetry, Real life sort of stuff · 1 Comment

Been writing again recently. Thanks to my wonderful girlfriend Kimberlee (I love you Kimberlee) for reminding me that I’m a writer.

So: signing on tomorrow, collecting some meagre cash. Then on thursday I’ll be collecting some real money, and buying a bike lock. Don’t have one at the minute, and they frown on me bringing my bike into shops to keep an eye on it. Either way, today’s picture.

It’s pretty grim right about now, I’m down to my labtec webcam, which I bought 3 years ago. The little camera I was using has no battery power, and I can’t afford batteries at this moment in time. So today’s picture quality is low. But nevertheless, I’m here, posting a picture. Logging in. Getting it done.

It only took six days

January 8, 2009 · Posted in Alcohol, Love · 5 Comments

gift-1

I received a package in the mail today.

After opening the big white package, smothered in messages that it was from the US postal service, I found a little brown box, with a little brown bow on it. My heart began to flutter because I knew it was the present from my beloved. She had told me on the day that she had sent it, and I’d been waiting eagerly every day for my wonderful little surprise to come through the door.

However today, I was out back working on the Mario Box project, and mema brought it out back to me. I immediately downed tools, rushed inside and opened up the package. I took a moment to savour the little brown box inside. It’s got this sort of suede stuff on it. It’s a nice box…

Enough about the box already Dave. What was INSIDE the box I hear you growl through impatient teeth. Well, why tell you, when I can show you?

….After the jump.

Sol and Lime

January 6, 2009 · Posted in 365 project, Alcohol, Love, photography · 2 Comments

Greetings from the 6th of January here in a freezing cold in Ireland. I spent an hour unblocking the drain outside, and I’ll tell you what, I need a damn beer after that.

The Whitechapel Porter is in honour of Warren Ellis and his Freakangels comic. A Steam Punk tale in post apocalyptic London. It’s currently up to episode 40 and it’s free to everyone. A fine web comic.

Also I’m celebrating a lovely phone call between my girlfriend and I this morning. We shared a beautiful little moment and even though we’re 7000 miles apart, I’ve never felt closer to her.

I’ve got Sol, but I’m not a soldier
…. Ok fine, so I couldn’t resist.
