<p>My first plate of welds. I&#8217;m rather proud of it actually. What I&#8217;m learning is Manual Metal Arc Welding; Sometimes called stick welding. </p>
<p>You basically take a stick of filler metal coated in flux and run 105 amps through it. Then you earth the piece of metal you want to weld, then strike an arc (by tapping or dragging the rod across the metal) and lay down the filler.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a video of basically what I was doing today.</p>
<p><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7EY8GAJs5uE&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;color1=0x3a3a3a&#038;color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7EY8GAJs5uE&#038;hl=en_GB&#038;fs=1&#038;color1=0x3a3a3a&#038;color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></p>
<p>I&#8217;ll update weekly for the next 8 weeks as my welding course progresses. Learning, progressing&#8230; all for free. God Bless <a href="http://www.fas.ie/en/">Fas</a>.</p>
